If you are a mannequin employed to parade or demonstrate fashions, a photographic model, a fashion compere or a fashion demonstrator, you are eligible to join the SDA

Carol Wadley worked extensively with models in Tasmania for in excess of 20 years and boasts a wealth of knowledge on the industry. The SDA Academy of Modelling was the largest modelling school in Tasmania until 2008 when it ceased operation.

Carol Still conducts Beauty Therapy and Modelling classes in educational facilities throughout Tasmania and can provide our members with advice and assistance in the area of Modelling.

Whether you are a newcomer to the industry or an experienced professional, it is important to be on the lookout for fair pay and working conditions, and to be careful not to be exploited. In a nutshell, you should be paid for any assignments or work that you do in this industry and there is an award that details and covers this as well as many other entitlements that are legally yours.

Modelling for “charity” or “experience” should be considered carefully and we recommend that you seek advice before continuing to provide these services.

Unfortunately in Tasmania a dream of a career in modelling will probably be never realised and should be treated as a hobby or a stepping stone to a career nationally.

Please feel free to contact Carol Wadley for assistance and advice on how to start your career, where to go for training and referral to suitable agencies.
