Representation

Shop floor delegates and occupational health and safety representatives are the SDA's "front line" in looking after its members. These are the dedicated workers who are well versed on wages and conditions in the workplace, including safety issues.
To ensure workers have the best possible representation, the SDA has shop delegates in all areas to take up issues with employers on behalf of its members.
These people provide a vital link between employees and employers and minor problems can often be solved quickly and painlessly through negotiation between the shop delegate and management.

Delegates receive training and support in their role and the SDA is only a phone call away to assist in larger issues.
Members required to attend formal counseling in the workplace have the right to be accompanied by another person as a witness or to represent their interests. Shop delegates or a union representative will perform this important role and meetings must be scheduled to accommodate this.
